《猫》剧自1981年于伦敦西区剧院（West End Theatre）首演以来，至今已有23年历史，期间曾于美、日、法、德等国公演，都造成空前的轰动，往往一票难求。现在仍是纽约百老汇最长青、卖座最好的剧码，无庸置疑是韦伯最受欢迎音乐剧作之一。
《猫》剧改编自诗人艾略特的诗集<实际的猫>（OLD POSSUM‘SBOOK OF PRACTICAL CATS）。韦伯发挥独特的想像力，将艾略特诗集中猫世界作了可爱又俏皮的诠释。
韦伯完美的音乐功力巧妙融合古典、爵士及摇滚乐，动人地呈现剧中角色的情感与性格。
