The Sub Master is a high quality, high performance signal-processing unit designed to enhance the performance of subwoofers in Home Audio and Professional Audio systems. Its main function is to flatten the in-room response of the subwoofer and integrate it with the other loudspeakers it is working with. The result is system sound that is more musical and enjoyable.
Before you start using your Sub Master you should know that some frequencies will enhance the sound of your system while others must be avoided to protect your subwoofer.
First, not all subwoofers are equal and no amount of correction will turn a really bad one into a room-rattling behemoth. In fact, many subwoofers cannot produce a flat frequency response in a typical room even though their specs may suggest they can! Most have power handling capabilities that vary with frequency. At very low frequencies, almost all subwoofers give up trying to convert the electrical signal into an acoustic output.
Music and movie soundtracks also vary greatly in the amount and extension of the bass they contain. The ideal low frequency extension of a subwoofer would be a flat response to 20 Hz. Unfortunately, the fact is that very few commercial subwoofers are able to do this. Large rooms make authoritative reproduction of 20 Hz tones almost impossible. Some sources contain tones even lower in frequency and this simply exacerbates the problem.
What determines the low frequency limit and overall output level of a subwoofer? The answer is the amount of air the radiating surface can move. Small boxes reproduce deep bass at the expense of efficiency: Unless your small subwoofer is equipped with a massive amplifier and cones that can literally move in inches, it is not going to play very low – or very loud.
High performance subwoofers are never cheap. There is simply no short cut.
That’s the bad news. Here’s the good news. A high performance subwoofer will not only add bass extension and level, it will also improve the performance of your entire audio system! There’s one caveat to this statement – your subwoofer must be properly integrated into the overall system for you to hear all the advantages.
That’s where the Sub Master comes in. It has four critically designed circuits that are essential to properly blending your subwoofer with the rest of your speakers and actually improving the performance of the subwoofer itself.
The Sub Master is built with high level of craftsmanship and attention to details. It is constructed with CNC machined aluminum front panel and a solid steel case, and is designed to be aesthetically and functionally compatible with the best audio products available in the market.
Features
· A precision 1/3-octave equalizer that controls more effectively than any other EQ
System- below 16Hz and up to 200Hz. An EQ defeat switch allows you to hear the changes.
· A variable 24dB/octave low cut filter from 10Hz to 35Hz will prevent any spurious low frequencies that are below the operational band of your sub. Some movie sound tracks have high level signals below 20Hz which can destroy smaller subs. This control will prevent that happening making the sub cleaner and play louder.
· A variable two way electronic crossover (24dB/octave) from 30-200Hz. Two units with a second power amp can convert some AAD speakers into 2 way active systems, such as the Q40, Q50 and E48. This sonic improvement has to be “heard to be believed” and it may not be necessary for an additional sub woofer.
· A variable phase control from 0-180 degrees in conjunction with the variable crossover allows seamless integration between speakers and sub.
· Using and additional power amp with this unit can convert a speaker into a perfect sub woofer. Making it an ideal component for installers who wish to use custom fitted enclosures.
