I have had Lyra Helikon, Parnasus, BenzMicro Ruby 2 low output,
Koetsu Urushi, and Shelter 901. I have used Linn LP12 with Naim
Aro, Roksan TMS with Naim Aro and now Roksan TMS2 with SME5. I think
the shelter 901 is among the most balanced of them all, even though
it's the least expensive.
To me, the Benz has great musicality, but you lose some precision
and detail. Helikon is very detailed, but music was expressed with
too little passion. Urushi has the midrange to die for. If all you
listen is violin or string music, that'll be the ultimate choice
(even better than Onyx). Still, Urushi has slight color on the mid-
lower range which some prefer but some don't. Shelter 901 is just right in between the Urushi and the Helikon with great great musicality but never loose any detail. It's pace, rhythm and tempo
is better than the Urushi and never as fatigueing as the Helikon. It
is my choice for now.
The new Lyra Titan was reported to be very very good but also very
expensive. Some one wanna try?
