  http://www.rogerwhittaker.com/

Durham Town, New World In The Morning... ...

  Streets Of London

Have you seen the old man in the closed down market
Kicking up the paper with his worn out shoes
In his eyes you see no pride
And held loosely by his side,
yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news

How can you tell me you're lonely
And say, for you, that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind

Have you seen the old gal who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags
She's no time for talkin, she just keeps right on walkin'
Carryin her home in two carrier bags

How Can you tell me....

In the all night cafe at a quarter past eleven
Same old man sitting there on his own
Looking at the world over the rim of his teacup
Each tea lasts an hour and he goes home alone

How can you tell me....

Have you seen the old man outside the seaman's mission
Memory fading like the ribbons that he wears
In our winter city, the rain cries a little pity
For one more forgotten hero in a world that doesn't care

How can you tell me you're lonely
And say, for you, that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
I'll show you something to make you change your mind

HEARTLAND    (Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan)
Written  by Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan

Willie...
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
And the bankers are taking my home and my land from me
There's a big gapin' hole in my chest now, where my heart was
And a hole in the sky, where God used to be

Bob...
There's a home place under fire tonight in the heartland
There's a well where the water's so bitter nobody can drink
Ain't no way to get high, and my mouth is so dry that I can't speak
Don't they know that I'm dyin? Why's nobody cryin' for me?

Both...
My American dream, fell apart at the seams
You tell me what it means, you tell me what it means

Willie...
There's a home place under fire tonight in a heartland
The bankers are taking the homes and the land away
There's a young boy closing his eyes tonight in a heartland
Who will wake up a man with some land and a loan he can't pay

Both...
His American dream, fell apart at the seams
You tell me what it means, you tell me what it means
My American dream, fell apart at the seams
You tell me what it means, you tell me what it means
There's a home place under fire tonight in a heartland...
