NEW EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT
Deutsche Grammophon Signs An Exclusive Recording-Agreement With Prize-Winning Pianist Ingolf Wunder
Hamburg, January 2011. Deutsche Grammophon is pleased to announce the signing of an exclusive recording-agreement with the pianist Ingolf Wunder, winner of the second prize at the 2010 Warsaw International Chopin Competition. Noted critic John Allison described his appearances as: “Standing room filled up for Ingolf Wunder, indicating that he is now the audience’s favourite. It’s not hard to see why, and his E minor Concerto had authority right from the opening statement. Wunder has a way of capturing an audience’s attention with poetry and emotion; his playing is about sound, not just notes, and in that respect he was in a league of own.”
In Warsaw, Wunder was also awarded prizes for the best performance of a concerto and of the Polonaise-Fantasy.
His first recording for Deutsche Grammophon will be a solo Chopin recital, planned for release this April.
Commenting on Ingolf Wunder, Polish pianist Paweł Kowalski said: “His playing is a mixture of technical perfection and a very Polish spirit. You can hear he was spending hours with Adam Harasiewicz who won the Warsaw Competition 55 years ago. People were saying at the time that Harasiewicz played like Rubinstein. Wunder’s playing is in the same category. He has no technical problems whatsoever. There is simplicity in his phrasing. His pianism is absolutely perfect.”
Wunder – who had previously won the top prize at competitions such as Turin (European Music), Hamburg (Steinway), Feldkirch (“Prima la musica”), Asti (Concours Musical de France), Casarza (“VI Trofeo Internazionale”), and Budapest (Liszt) – has already performed throughout the world, including in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, and the USA.
Michael Lang, President of Deutsche Grammophon, says: “Ingolf Wunder is a gifted artist, who has deservedly won acclaim for his music-making – the music – and its beauty – focuses his audience’s attention entirely on his playing. A rare gift.”
On signing the agreement Ingolf Wunder said: “It’s an honour and privilege. To record for Deutsche Grammophon is every pianist’s dream. I hope my recordings will add to that legacy.”
Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, in 1985, Ingolf Wunder had his first music lessons at the age of four. He began on the violin and had reached a high level of proficiency when, at the age of 14, his extraordinary talent for the piano was discovered by a teacher who urged him to dedicate himself to the keyboard. Shortly thereafter he made his successful debut at the Schubertsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus. After studying at the conservatories of Klagenfurt and Linz, he went to Vienna’s Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. He currently is continuing his studies in Vienna under the guidance of Adam Harasiewicz.
Ingolf Wunder began 2011 with an acclaimed tour of Japan – which will be followed by appearances in Arezzo, Düsseldorf, Gdańsk, Helsinki, Israel, Kraków, Oslo, Rome (Terme di Caracalla), St. Petersburg (Mariinsky), Vancouver, Vienna (Musikverein), and Warsaw.
