I have auditioned the 1007 Be at Superking Mongkok today. This French speakers are a direct competitor to the British B&W N805S, both in price and in performance, in HK. The enclosure is 10 - 15% larger than the B&W and is equally well finished. The look is modern and gorgeous but honestly all of us just prefer the look of the N805.
Their price is around 10% of each other, 805 being cheaper. So it is meaningless to pick by price.
Performance-wise the French has superior tonal balance, smoother and very quick in response. The bass is much superior and accurate. It makes the 805 feel like not coherent enough between the tweeter and the 6.5" mid/bass driver. In terms of tweeter and soundstage performance I think B&W has an upper hand. 1007Be has a high efficiency at 89dB and contrary to the B&W does not require a good amplification to sound good. In terms of choice of amplifier the French speakers are not as picky as the British. Soundstage is more natural and can be upfront or laid back depending on the source material. This is very good as the speakers can play all kind of music quite well with just the humble Classe CAP-151.
Really I am not sure between the 1007 and 805. Both excellent choice for the price range but I feel the French speakers is a better choice.
Update on Jan 4th - Finally I reluctantly bought a used pair of N805S on Friday, December 29th, thanks to Vicent Shek. The following was my brief comment on the Electra on Review33.com:
I auditioned the French Electra 1007Be (around 2 hours with Luxman L550 and YBL integrated amp with Esoteric SA-60 and Cary 303/300 as source components) before I bought the B&W N805S. In fact I like the 1007Be better than the BN805S. 1007Be has better tonal balance, faster response and very accurate and well-defined bass. The treble and the mids are very coherent. It can play all kinds of music effortlessly and play them real loud if you so desired.
1007Be is also not picky as the N805S in terms of amplifier selection.
I had planned for N805S so even though 1007Be was overall a better loudspeaker I did not change my mind.
I encourage people considering N805S to audition the Electra 1007Be because they are very comparable in performance/price.
