I have done similar comparisons myself, and indeed the Ikemi has
improved. I seriously doubt, though, that the two official revisions
(transport software oct 1999 and EFM adjustment pot jan 2001) made so
far are the most important and therefore "the things to look for".
If I understand it correctly, Linn continually do hardware revisions
(change components) without telling anyone about it. Occasionally they
make layout revisions, changes to an entire circuit board, which they
_might_ declare as an official update.
On the older products, I used to keep track on this stuff. Now I've
given up, simply accepting (and appreciating!) that newer=better.
Oh, by the way, I agree with the general description of your findings.
My year 2000 Ikemi is a bit more laid back than the latest I heard, but
I still find it incredibly good sounding. If a new Genki scores 5 in
musical performance and a new Ikemi 10, my 2 year old Ikemi scored above
9. (Sorry about this number exercise, can't find any more words today).
Best regards,
